The Sound boxes consists of two wooden boxes marked with two different coloured lids: the box with the red lid contains six wooden cylinders marked with a red disc; the box with the blue lid contains the same cylinders, marked with a blue disc. The cylinders in both boxes are the same size and contain different material. Each cylinder in both boxes, when shaken, produces a different noise, graduated from loudest to softest. For each cylinder in the red series there is a corresponding cylinder in the blue series. The exercise consists of looking for and recognising the cylinders that produce the same noise and then grading them. The game sharpens the sensory perception of hearing, helps to discriminate and understand the concepts of 'loud' and 'soft', and promotes the ability to control and maintain attention.
Sensory Material: consisting of a set of objects 'grouped according to a certain physical quality' - weight, temperature, size, shape, colour, sound, etc. - Refining the perception of each sense encourages exploration and knowledge. AGE: from about three years old. The boxes and cylinders are made of wood. The senses, "windows on the world", accompany development. The noise cylinders help to distinguish the different sound perceptions.
