Small hierarchy frame

The small frame of the hierarchies is formed by four parallel metallic threads, the first three equidistant from each other, as they belong to the same family: the family of the simples; the fourth has a greater distance from the third thread and this denotes the passage to the family of the thousands. On the 1st thread, starting from the top, there are 10 green beads for the units; on the 2nd thread, 10 blue beads for the tens; on the 3rd thread, 10 red beads for the hundreds; on the 4th thread, 10 green beads for the units of thousands. On the left side of the frame are the numerical values: 1 - 10 - 100; on a grey background is the symbol for units of thousands: 1,000.

The small hierarchy loom can be used to carry out a variety of tasks: making associations between concrete and symbolic materials, forming and reading out the numbers on the loom, furthering the memorisation of multiplication and the change technique, and performing addition and subtraction. With this material, children learn more about not only the change from tens to hundreds, but also about value setting, i.e. the precise positions in the various hierarchies. Various exercises can be carried out, thanks to which the children are also prepared for addition and subtraction in writing. It is a bridge to abstraction for addition and subtraction exercises.
