The Introduction to decimal system is a material for the development of the mathematical mind, a fundamental material on which to base the ordering of numerical quantities. It facilitates calculation in such a way as to enable the child to count "large quantities" without the slightest effort, because with simplicity and clarity it encourages the construction of the "base 10" numbering system. The KEY to the Decimal System lies in the concluding game between "9" and "10". In fact, as soon as the quantity of nine units is exceeded, there are no digits to represent the new group being formed; one has to go back to the beginning using the digit "1" and resorting to a composition of digits "1" and "0", then, again, one continues from "1" to "9".
