Wood tower

The natural wood tower consists of a series of 10 cubes made of steamed beech wood, identical in colour but with an edge that varies from 1 to 10 cm. The size of the cubes varies from the large cube to the small cube in height, width and depth, gradually decreasing by 1 cm. Being able to observe and touch the cubes stimulates the tactile-muscular sense, composing the cubes in a tower helps the eye to perceive dimensions, even in their three-dimensionality. This activity serves to give a concrete understanding of the concept of large and small. The cubes, in fact, do not differ in colour in order to highlight the quality of size and the proportion of dimensions. The activity with this material encourages the development of eye-hand coordination, attention and concentration and indirectly prepares for the "mathematical mind" by introducing concepts of geometry, volume and the decimal system.
